History of ICC

A Short History: From the Idea to the Programme

The efforts to support blind and partially sighted students at the universities of Linz and Karlsruhe led to considerations on how to support the transition from school to university. These considerations encouraged us to build up a concept for the realisation of the camp idea to get in touch with possible students at an early stage.

The possibility to take part in the workshop of the TEMPUS- Project of the EU JEP-2423-92/2 "New Study and Vocational Possibilities for Visually Handicapped Students" in 1993 offered the University of Linz the chance to present the idea ICC to a broader international group of experts.

The idea met with unanimous approval. The participants agreed that first there should be a national computer camp in Austria in 1993 and by taking into account the experiences from this first event an international computer camp should be put into action in 1994.

Since then, ICC has taken place in different countries all over Europe and about 2000 participants took part in ICC, led and guided by 1500 experts:
